Custom fields for jobs
Create job fields, record values, and preserve historical information when retiring fields.
Updated: 2026-10-06# Custom fields for jobs
Custom fields let your business record additional information on a job. Available types are text, number, date, and a fixed-choice list. A field's type cannot be changed after creation. A list can have up to 20 choices; existing choices stay available when new ones are added.
The catalog supports up to 20 active fields. Retiring a field stops it from being edited on jobs while preserving its historical values. Retired values remain visible as read-only history. Renaming a field changes its current label; previously recorded history keeps its saved snapshot.
People who can view a job can see its custom fields when their job access permits it. Editing job values requires the appropriate job-management permission. Only authorized business administrators can manage the field catalog. Access is checked by the service for each request.
Custom fields are for operational notes and job details. Do not enter passwords, payment-card data, or other secrets. Saving a value updates the job's field record; it does not send information to an external integration.
